Lac Seul Events Centre

The Events Centre continues to be a central meeting place in the community,
however its usage has declined as community members opt to enrol their
children in the Sioux Lookout Minor Hockey program.
Community members have good reason to be proud of the facility, Visitors
continually express how they are impressed with the facility and wish they had something
similar in theirs.
The Event Centre does not run a lot of programming but provides the facilities for other
organizations, businesses and individuals to use. The exception is the Outdoor Show, which
is unique to the Event Centre.
This was the second year the Outdoor Show was held, which was a need recognized for the
area. The show was hosted in partnership with the Sioux Lookout Chamber of Commerce
and the Sioux Lookout Anglers and Hunters.
The conference rooms have been used by Tikinagn Child and Family Services, Sioux
Lookout First Nations Health Authority, Grand Council Treaty #3, and for numerous
private and corporate meetings. Services were also provided for funerals.
Two highlights from the past year were hosting the Outdoor Show and a Career Fair. A
Johnny Cash tribute concert, organized by Prevention Services, was also held.
Other highlights include hosting a Don Burnstick night of comedy. Ladies from the
Baptist Church in Sioux Lookout also hosted a back-to-school movie afternoon.
They made gelatin bricks and decorated the facility inspired by the feature
film: The Lego Movie.
In terms of weekly activities, there is the minor hockey program, mixed broomball, and
public skating. Also, the arena is open daily at lunch for pay and play and is available to
the public for $5. The Sioux Lookout Figure Skating Club also uses the arena regularly.
Future plans include hosting hockey tournaments this winter, as well as broomball
Currently, the Events Centre Manager oversees the Tim Horton’s operations, which is a
franchise operated in Sioux Lookout, and is heading the development of Giant Tiger, which
is set to open in Sioux Lookout.
