Executive Director

Summary:

Lac Seul First Nation is seeking an Executive Director to work closely with Chief and Council and to be the administrative lead for the first nation. Under the direction of the Lac Seul Chief and Council, the Executive Director will be responsible for promoting and ensuring community and program development, planning, managing and oversite of all financial and administrative operational systems, processes and people.  This includes acting as the financial and administrative signing officer, budgeting, planning, expenditure control and general administrative policies and procedures.  The Executive Director will also provide leadership, direction and supervision to all members of the management team. 

Under the supervision and direction of the Chief and Council, the Executive Director is responsible for implementing the Council’s community strategic plans and ensuring that programs and services are effectively delivered, that managers are accountable and that all reporting documents and record keeping is accurately maintained and reported in a timely manner.  The Executive Director acts as a liaison with banking officials, lenders, vendors, funders, auditors, government agencies and officials. 

 

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of five to ten years of experience in similar role
  • Post-Secondary education preferred and/or a combination of education and experience that ensures similar skill level
  • Extensive knowledge of federal and provincial funding agencies
  • Strong understanding of the community cultural and political environment within the first nation
  • Sensitivity to aboriginal culture and issues  
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s license
  • Fluency in Ojibway is a definite asset

Location:      Lac Seul, Ontario

Start:              October 2016

The salary range for this position is $70.000-$90,000 per year based on experience and education.
